Is there any possible way that Jim Harbaugh's stock could be any higher? Can anyone remember when there was a hotter candidate coming from the college ranks? Has Harbaugh called Andrew Luck to say "Thanks for making my decision even harder?"
Only two ways could the stock be even higher....first he stays at Stanford and repeats the 12-1 season (or potentially does it one better) and two, he goes to Michigan (I doubt it) and wins there. I think he feels spurned by Michigan because Rich Rodriguez was chosen over him three seasons ago. If he does go back to his alma mater, it's going to take 2-3 years before his recruits become starters and the spread option players are phased out.
I can't recall a hotter college candidate. Nick Saban was hot candidate, but hopefully Harbaugh won't follow that path. Harbaugh's success at the college ranks definitely does leave the door open for him to return to the college game someday if the NFL thing doesn't pan out. Saban did and has succeeded at the collegiate level...again.
Can't imagine the effect Luck's decision has on Harbaugh's. Harbaugh was probably thinking that with Luck going to the NFL (as the presumptive first choice in the draft), his highly talented meal ticket would be gone and the decision would be easy to leave Stanford. Now that Luck is staying in school, Harbaugh could potentially have more of a pull to remain in Palo Alto.
I still think he leaves for the NFL, even if he seems more suited to be a college coach. Too bad Marvin Lewis re-upped with the Bengals, we could have had the Harbaughs face off twice a season...but the Brown family would never pay the salary this in demand coach was asking for.
